This Autumn Marcus will be reprising the role of Robert Alton in season 2 of ’Sanctuary - A Witch’s Tale,’ directed by Hannah Quinn and Dathaí Keane, for AMC+ and SUNDANCE TELEVISION.
Marcus is also very excited to appear in 3 up-coming Irish language feature films due for release in 2024. ‘Freamhacha/Frewacka’ a folk horror written and directed by Aislinn Clarke, ‘Fidil Ghorm,’ a heart-warming drama directed by Anne McCabe, and ’Satnoa/Aontas,’ a heist drama written by Sarah Gordon and Damian McCann and directed by Damian McCann. He will also appear as a Northern Irish hotel owner with nefarious intentions in TV series ‘Borderline,’ (Shinawil Productions), directed by Robert Quinn and Mark Breskow, also due for release in late 2024. Late last year Marcus was delighted to play the German Col. Treskow in the powerful WW2 film ‘Bonhoeffer', written and directed by Todd Komparnicki (Sully, Elf), due for release in late 2024. Prior to that he filmed the 7 part series 'Sanctuary,' for AMC, in the intriguing role of Robert Alton, directed by Lisa Mulcahy and Justin Molotnikov, which was released on AMC in 2023. He recently thoroughly enjoyed playing Lord Perry, a lead role in the feature film 'Royal Rendesvouz,' for CNN, opposite Isabella Gomez and Dearbhla Molloy and directed by Christine Luby, which will air on 'E' in the US on Feb 26th, 2023. Earlier in 2022 Marcus featured opposite Eve Hewson as George Rooney in director John Carney's feature 'Flora and Son,' which received a glowing response at its debut screening in the Sundance Festival, 2023 and can be seen on Apple TV. Marcus can currently be seen as Wulfnoth in the Vikings Prequel, 'Valhalla' on Netflix (MGM, Netflix), and appeared earlier this year as Sean Walsh in the critically acclaimed World Premiere of 'Circle of Friends,' by Maeve Binchy, directed by Viko Nikci and adapted by Elaine Murphy, (Breda Cashe/Gaiety Theatre, April - May 2022). He appeared as Éamon De Valera in the historical drama documentary 'A State of Flux,' and also 'Cold Case Collins,' produced by Loosehorse Productions, and directed by Peter Murphy, which aired on RTE television in 2022. In Oct 2021, Marcus appeared in the Dublin Theatre Festival 2021 in 'Stronger,' by Geoff Power, directed by Paul Meade of Gúna Nua, alongside a stellar cast, including Mary Murray. He narrated the audiobook 'M, King's Bodyguard,' by Niall Leonard - published by PENGUIN/RANDOM HOUSE - a gripping historical thriller, which was released in July 2021, to great critical acclaim. He also narrated the audio book 'The Four Kings of Ireland,' written by Larry McLaughlin, which is available on iTunes, Audible, etc. He played Peter Hurley in Lennox Robinson's classic comedy 'Drama at Inish,' which finished in January 2020 in the Abbey Theatre. It was directed by renowned comedy director Cal McCrystal. He was seen opposite Killian Scott, Sarah Greene, Tom Vaughan-Lawlor and Conleth Hill, as Terence Andrews in 'The Dublin Murders,' an 8 part crime drama for the BBC, based on the bestselling novels 'The Likeness' and 'In the Woods' by Tana French. He recently filmed 'Dev In America,' for TG4 in the role of Éamonn De Valera, which aired in September 2019, on TG4. In March of 2019 he embarked on a hugely successful national tour of the tense domestic thriller 'The Harvest' by Jane McCarthy. In December of 2018 he appeared opposite Daniel Reardon in the gothic ghost story 'The Signalman,' by Charles Dickens, adapted for the stage by Jane McCarthy. In July of 2018 he appeared to great acclaim in Samuel Beckett's 'First Love,' in the New Theatre, Dublin. In June of the same year he performed in the world premiere of 'The Harvest,' by Jane McCarthy, also in the new Theatre, Dublin, in which both he and the show received rave reviews. Both plays will begin a national tour in 2019. In March of 2018 he performed 'First Love,' in a special one-off sell-out performance in Tullow Church, Foxrock, where Samuel Beckett attended service as a boy with his mother, a short distance from Beckett's childhood home of Cooldrinagh. During 2017 Marcus appeared in the Dickensian feature film 'The Man Who Invented Christmas,' in the role of Bob Cratchit, opposite Dan Stevens, Christopher Plummer and Jonathon Pryce and directed by Bharat Nalluri. Marcus appeared in Fair City for RTE television, in the role of Doctor James Oakley. He recently finished filming Vikings season five earlier this year, for MGM/History Channel. Marcus will soon be seen opposite Fiona Shaw and Alun Armstrong in 'Out of Innocence,' directed by British director Danny Hiller, which won 'Best Feature Narrative,' at the Buffalo International Film Festival. In 2016 Marcus embarked on an extensive 5 month tour of 'Observe the Sons of Ulster Marching Towards the Somme,' by Frank McGuinness, in a co-production between the Abbey Theatre and Headlong Theatre Company, directed by multi-award winning and Olivier award-nominated director Jeremy Herrin. This tour of Britain and Ireland included performances in the Somme to mark the centenary of the battle of the Somme. Marcus recently played Patrick Pearse in RTE's 5 part series 'Rebellion,' which can be seen on NETFLIX. Marcus studied professional acting in the Gaiety School of Acting between 2002 - 2004 and in The Factory (now Bow Street) full-time Film Acting course in 2013. The youngest son of actors Peadar Lamb and Geraldine Plunkett, he has extensive experience of screen, theatre and voice-over work. As a fluent Irish speaker, he works in both English and Irish productions. He has toured extensively with Druid Theatre Company to Australia, North America, Japan, Ireland and Europe, with their critically acclaimed shows 'The Playboy of the Western World' and 'DruidSynge,' directed by the Tony award winning Garry Hynes. In 2014 he made his Abbey Theatre debut as Randall Utterword in GB Shaw's 'Heartbreak House.' Marcus is also a versatile voice-over artist. His work includes many animated series, television and radio advertisements. He narrated 'Great Expectations,' by Charles Dickens for The Book On One (RTE radio 1) and has been the voice on campaigns for Ulster Bank on television, and has worked for many of the leading Irish animation companies including Salty Dog, Cartoon Saloon, Macalla, Abú Media, Glór Media, Ink and Light Films, RTE Jnr and Moetian Films where he regularly dubs animated feature films from Scandinavian to English. He is represented by VOICEBANK, voice-over agency. He voiced many characters in the European animated series 'Simsala Grimm' (Magma films). He is the voice of Spongebob in the Irish language version of 'Sponge Bob Square Pants,' Cartman in the Irish Language version of 'South Park' and Wembley in the Irish language version of 'Fraggle Rock,' among many other productions. Marcus is a member of Mouth on Fire Theatre Company, set up in 2010 to perform the works of Irish Nobel Laureate Samuel Beckett. The company's aim is to bring Beckett to the general public and to make his work accessible to everyone. In 2013 they will have brought the works of Beckett to Tokyo, Belgium and Russia. In 2015 he performed Beckett's 'The End,' for the inmates of both Mountjoy and Portlaoise prisons and both performances were enthusiastically received. Having played Des O'Malley opposite Aidan Gillen in RTE's three part drama 'Charlie' in 2015, he returned to television screens as Patrick Pearse in the RTE series, 'Rebellion' in early 2016. Marcus also reprised the role of Lucky in Gare St Lazare Players production of 'Waiting For Godot' in the Skirball Theatre, New York in late 2015, after their much lauded run in the Shanghai Repertory Theatre, Shanghai in 2014. |
